Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu was born on March 29, 1952 to the illustrious and noble Tinubu family of Lagos state. He attended St. John’s primary School, Arotoya, Lagos and children’s home school in Ibadan. Young Bola in his quest for knowledge and exposure, travelled to United States in 1975, with his zeal for success he took to menial jobs as dishwashing, night- guards and cab driving to see himself through the initial difficulties of school at Richard Daley College, Chicago, Illinois. His brilliance showed forth when he made the honour’s list of Richard Daley College. He later transferred to the Chicago State University, Illinois and graduated with honours in 1979 and he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Accounting and Management). He was also awarded with University Scholar’s Award and Certificate Merit in Accounting and Finance and was honoured with outstanding student’s award.
Work Experience
After graduating with honours and several meritorious awards, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu started his professional career at the American – based Arthur Anderson, Deloitte Haskins and Sells( known as Deloitte Haskins and Touche) and GTE Service Corporation which is the largest communication and utility company in the United States of America.
Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu returned back to Nigeria in 1983 with his vast accrued international experiences and he obtained work with Mobil Oil Nigeria, becoming the executive director of the company.
Early Political Career
With the strong academic profile and brilliance of Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, he contested and won the political election as the President of the Accounting Society in his final year at the Chicago State University. Senator Bola first political role in Nigeria started when he was elected as the Honourable Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the National Assembly,he was one of the founding members of the defunct Social Democratic Party(SDP) in 1992 . He distinguished himself as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Finance, Appropriation and Currency. After the June 12, 1993 presidential election was annulled, Tinubu became a founding member of the pro- democratic group, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) which has for many times tackle the military and fought the course for restoration of Democracy and the recognition of June 12 result. He flee out of Nigeria in 1994 after receiving a lot of assault, harassments, many arrests and detentions.

Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu came back home after the death of the military dictator and tyrant Gen. Sani Abacha., after which ushered in a transition to the civilian rule. In the bid for the 1999 gubernatorial election under the party Alliance for Democracy (AD) he competed with likes of Funso Williams and Dr. Wahab Dosunmu for the party gubernatorial ticket and he won. In April 1999, he contested for the position of Executive Governor of Lagos State and he was elected. When he assumed office in May 1999, he made huge investment on education and also rehabilitate roads and constructed new roads to meet the challenges of the fast growing Lagos State. He was re-elected to office as the Executive Governor of Lagos State April, 2005. He was involve in a long term struggle with the Federal Government over the creation of new Local Government when the fund meant for Lagos State was seized and he could withstand it by generating funds 2007 locally within the state. Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu 8yrs tenure ended 29th May 2007.
He won several awards for himself for his excellent performance as Executive Governor of Lagos State of Nigeria during his eight years tenure (1999- 2007). Best Governor for year 2000 by Nigeria- Belgian chamber of Commerce, Year 2002 Best practices price in improving the living environment awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works and UN Habitat Group, Year 2000 Best Computerized Government in Nigeria Awarded by Computer Association of Nigeria.
Currently
Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an active leader of the Action Congress, a political party in Nigeria. He was recently coronated with one of the highest chieftaincy title in Egbaland. He has been sued to court by the EFCC for financial impropriety which is pleads not guilty. However the case is still in court.
